Join Katalyst at Geoconvention 2025

We are excited to take center stage at Geoconvention 2025, which will be held at the Calgary Telus Convention Center. Our Katalyst experts will be presenting on a variety of  insightful topics Wednesday, May 14th.  Sue Carr, Solutions Manager, Subsurface Consulting of Katalyst Data Management will be chairing the presentation sessions with Svetlana Bidikhova under the title: Digital Data is Geoscience Reality

Organizations represented in our sessions aside from Katalyst are: Noble AI, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Energy & Environmental Research Center University of North Dakota, Iron Mountain and Microsoft.

Katalyst Presentations Line Up at Geoconvention

Realistic Use of Generative AI for Subsurface Data Queries, presented by: Jess Kozman, Senior Principal Consultant of Katalyst Data Management & Lorena Pelegrin, Global Product Lead, Energy Digital Solutions of Iron Mountain ( 1:25 PM – 1:50 PM in Glen 205)

There have been unrealistic expectations for the ability of data technologies such as generative AI to automatically assist with location of business-critical data for subsurface resource projects. Tests with commercially available tools show that extensive data quality management and standardization, rigorous indexing, and collection of curated metadata attributes are all critical to success. Rapidly expanding volumes of newly digitized legacy subsurface data and uptake of continuous data acquisition technologies put pressure on workflows originally designed to support datasets in a project-centric environment. We show that an intelligent document processing workflow using a Large Language Model (LLM), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, curated metadata, and knowledge graphs, can rapidly present relevant information from a dataset. We have documented the ability to find and access key attributes for evaluation of subsurface reservoirs in minutes instead of weeks. Click here for the full abstract

“What is special about the OSDU™ Data Platform?”, presented by: Debasis Chatterjee, Director R&A (Research and Analytics)- ( 3:45 PM – 4:10 PM in Glen 205)

OSDU (previously known as “Open Subsurface Universe”) Forum’s offering is a complete Data Platform. It initially catered to wide spectrum of data types that are commonly used in Oil & Gas Industry. Lately, the platform has extended coverage to Mining Industry and to New Energy (such as Solar, Wind, Geothermal among others).  Click here for the full abstract
